Coming to Girona from the UK, North America, Latin America or anywhere else in the world? A cycling holiday here is easier to organise than it looks. This guide walks you through the key decisions, from flights to bikes.

1. Choose the type of riding and the tour

Start with what you want to ride. That decides the season, the bike and the tour:

Not sure? Read our comparison of guided and self-guided cycling in Girona, or ask us for a custom tour.

2. Pick your dates

Spring and autumn are the most popular seasons for cycling in Girona, with mild temperatures and long riding days. Summer can be hot inland, so rides start early. Winter is quieter and often pleasant on the coast. Check our guide to the best time for a cycling tour in Girona.

3. Book your flights

  • Girona-Costa Brava airport (GRO): next to the city, with flights from many European cities.
  • Barcelona airport (BCN): the main gateway for long-haul flights from the Americas, Asia and the rest of the world. Girona is about an hour away by car, and there are direct trains from Barcelona to Girona.

Our base, the Hotel Summum in Monells, is 15 minutes from Girona. Ask us about getting there when you book.

4. Decide: bring your bike or rent one

Bringing your own bike means riding your usual setup, but you’ll need a bike box or bag, and airlines charge different fees for sports equipment, so check before booking. The hotel has locked bike parking and a workshop area to reassemble it.

Renting saves you the transport and the risk of damage. We offer high-end road, gravel and mountain bikes. Bring your own pedals, saddle if you’re particular about it, and shoes.

5. Check travel documents and insurance

Entry requirements for Spain depend on your nationality, so check them well in advance. We also recommend travel insurance that covers cycling.

6. Pack for the ride

  • Helmet, shoes and pedals.
  • Layers: mornings can be cool even when afternoons are warm.
  • A light rain jacket.
  • Sun protection, as the Mediterranean sun is strong.
  • Your usual nutrition if you rely on specific products.

7. Let us handle the rest

On our tours, accommodation, guides, support vehicle, route navigation, daily breakfast and selected lunches and dinners are included. Tours last 5 days and start from €1,990 per person.
